October Conservation Numbers Released

SACRAMENTO – Californians have reduced water use by 27.1 percent in the five months since emergency conservation regulations took effect in June, continuing to meet Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr.’s 25 percent mandate despite a decline in the statewide water-savings rate for October.

In Rialto, our target conservation number is 28% – in October, we missed our target by a few percentage points, reaching 24.3% conservation over our October 2013 consumption. Since June, we have saved a cumulative 21.7% on the way to our overall goal. Thank you for your efforts to conserve water – please review our conservation tips so we continue to work toward meeting our goal.

In October, when outdoor water use – and the opportunity for significant savings – typically drops off from the hot summer months, the statewide conservation rate was 22.2 percent, down from 26.4 percent in September. Adding to the challenge, October brought temperatures that were well above normal for most of the state. Nonetheless, average statewide water use declined from 97 gallons per person per day in September to 87 in October.

THANK YOU TO OUR VETERANS!

Veolia is proud to employ veterans in Rialto, working to operate and maintain the city’s water and wastewater utilities. In fact, nearly half of all of the Veolia employees at Rialto Water Services have served in the military. Today, company leadership said thank you with a lunch out of the office. We offer a sincere thank you the veterans who work for us every day and to veterans everywhere!

Calling All Volunteers!!

This coming Saturday, volunteers will walk the community and deliver conservation-related information to all customers. It takes an army to put on The Water Walk – if you want to be involved, meet at the City’s Public Works Yard located at 246 S. Willow. You’ll get registered and then assigned to a group who will be delivering conservation information to Rialto residences.

*You will be responsible for your own transportation – and assigned to a zone to pass out flyers, or set up tables, chairs and food.

September Conservation Numbers Released

SACRAMENTO – Californians reduced water use by more than 26 percent during September, exceeding Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr.’s 25 percent conservation mandate for a fourth straight month.

In Rialto, our target conservation number is 28% – in September, we fell short of that goal, reaching 22.4% conservation over our September 2013 consumption. Thank you for your efforts to conserve water – please review our conservation tips so we continue to work toward meeting our goal.

“Millions of Californians have saved water during the summer months, which are the four most critical months to save water,” said Felicia Marcus, chair of the State Water Resources Control Board. “This is important and wonderful, and we are thankful for all of the effort by individuals and agencies. Now, we need to keep it up as best we can, even as we hope for as much rain and snow as we can safely handle. We’re in the position of having to prepare for drought and flooding at the same time, but that’s what we’re faced with.”
